Bretton Woods went from 98 trails one weekend to 7 the next, so the terrain parks were closed which forced me into working with ski patrol on Friday with Matt. We first headed up and met Kevin, Greg and Paul, all whom were pretty cool. There wasn't much going on so they sent us off to ride. Later in the day we took the padding off the lift towers on Fabyans's Express Triple chair. It was really muddy and the snow was spotty so it made for some grass skiing. It opened my eyes to how much ski patrol actually does, there is a lot of prep work like putting up the pads, getting the first aid station ready, and the same goes with closing trails, doing sweeps and putting up proper roping/signage. Saturday, was the Mountain Bike Race, I worked with patrol in the morning roping off the course, to separate the ski trail from the race, I learned all the work that goes into it and how to do the knot to connect the rope to the bones. After that the race was going to start so I headed up to the start line and took pictures of John Kuhn and other racers. After lunch, the race had ended so we had to take the rope off the bones and coil it up which took a good amount of time. That concluded our time at Bretton Woods, we thanks Mr. James Noyes and headed home.
Ski patrol plays a huge part in customer service, they open and close trails, set up fencing and if you get hurt they are there to help! They are huge on safety as they put out signs, recue injured skiers and make routine safety checks. Patrol effects the customer in positive and negative ways, as they can open/close traisl whenever they deam them safe/unsafe.

Bretton Woods Rentals
Friday, met with Erin the director of rentals. The weather was horrible, so it was fairly slow, we did probably about 10 rentals for the whole day. We did a lot of fleet tunes, so i spent much of my day in the repair shop using the hot waxer which was very cool to do. The rental shop gives the customer good equipment, especially beginners who have never skied before. Its fairly inexpensive and they are fully tuned. I also got to meet with a guy from Burton who stopped by the shop to show us next years line of snowboards. On Saturday it was a much busier day, the first part of the day we did more fleet tunes, but this time it was with the demo skis. Once that was done i hung out with Tanner at the demo ski section of the shop, we were trying to get people to rent them/possible by them. Later in the day around 1 we headed out to run the on snow free demo day. We got a lot of customers and sold 3 pairs of the demo skis, it was a gorgeous day out, another great day spent at the rental shop
The Woods Nordic Event
On Friday we met up with Tim then sent it over to the Nordic Center, there is where we learned that we would be doing trail maitanence (shoveling). We then talked about the plan with the head of nordic, got our tools and headed out onto the trail. We were shoviling snow that had been windblown off the trail, which was alot. We were located passed the bridge to the right where it splits into two trails. We then moved over the area by the start line by Mount Washington Resort. We spent our time here pushing snow onto the trail so the groomer would actually have snow to set the tracks in. This was a good amount of work but it was the end of the day and we drove back to LSC
On Saturday, the day of the event was here, over 200 hundred contestants have arrived, we started by setting up fencing at the finish line to make sure no one could get in the way, and so the contestants wouldnt get jammed up at the finish line. We then walked over to the starting line to help move the starting line back so the racers would have more room to merge. After the start of the race we moved the PA systems to the finish line and set up a food station. Kory, Matt and I stayed there for the rest of the day handing out drinks and food

BWOODZ WEEK UNO
Arrived at Bretton Woods on Friday, have a nice meeting with James, then was sent off to Hobbits where I was introduced to Greg and Patty. Hobbits is the ski school for little kids. The first day I shadowed Jamie around while she taught a class, it was a class full of 5/6 year old girls and they were siblings so there were arguments over who got to go first. We stopped many times for lunch and drink breaks. Loved the appleade. Later during the day I helped Simon teach a LCQ lesson, was very interesting, we headed up on the LCQ lift and one of the kids was kind of spacey and when we got to the top of the lift, he never got off....ha.ha. On Saturday I helped out in the downstairs of Hobbits with Ellen, checking in the customers for hobbits. I was checking reservations or showing people how to use the computer system for lessons/rentals. After that I went up and taught lessons out on the LCQ, I was basically helping kids get onto the magic carpet. I was working with Lauren/Allison teaching lessons we had a few kids who were just beginning and we were teaching them the pizza, some got it very quickly and were awesome, but others just wanted to french fry, and another just wanted her "Mommy". Hobbits was fun, very interesting time, didn't mind it at all though, and teaching kids to ski is harder than it looks. Hobbits offers a great service to the mountain and to the customers, they have a specific program for little kids, they have their own area so more experienced skiers/riders don't have to deal with beginners on the big mountain. The program allows beginners to fall in love with skiing which would thus mean they will return to Bretton and bring them revenue. Safety, the LCQ/ carpet area was surrounded by fencing which was helpful because a kid or two actually skied into them....yeah. The guest is effected by Hobbits because the family gets to drop the kid off for a full day lesson, and the parents get to go off and ski or ride for the day, they even have day care. The employee gets to interact with other employees offering a very fun atmosphere, many laughs were had, the freestyle section of hobbits also seemed pretty cool. The owner benefits from Hobbits because he knows the little beginners are being taken care of.

Jay Peak: Final
Worked at the Tram House Lodge Hotel. Was lucky enough to work with Blake Hall all day. I spent the day learning about how to check in and check out guest. Also helped with various problems at the hotel, such as going up to the ski locker room and unlocking jammed lockers. I learned about the valet system and how that works. It was very interesting and peaked my interest about working for a hotel at a resort. Just like rentals this department has slow hours then crazy rushes when people are checking out/in. Hotel's play a huge role in offering a could service to the customer, as they sleep at the hotel and get energy for the day. They also have ski and stay packages which are very affordable. Overall I loved my time at Jay Peak!!

Rentals & Guest Services
Friday I was in rentals with Becky and the gang, I really enjoyed my time down there, I learned how they prep for school groups and how the rental system works. I was busy working the whole time and it was sweet, loved the high tempo pace. It usally really busy in the morning then is dead during the afternoon while everyone is out on the hill, then it picks up again when everyone returns there stuff. The Rental and Repair shop has alot to do with customer satisfaction, if the process isnt smooth and they lose confidence during the fitting process then they wont have a fun time out on the hill, which could mean a loss in a customer which means Jay wont make money off this person again. Being friendly and positive is very helpful to people who are first timers and dont know whats going on. Safety is a big deal because they have to hand out the proper size equipment and make sure the din is calculated properly on the ski bindings. Overall i loved my time in the rental shop.
On Saturday I headed over to customer service. They basically handle any problems or questions a customer has, but mainly they sell lift tickets. I filed a lot of papers and mostly observed what was going on. I was impressed with how much each worker knew, Jay also has tons of deals for lift tickets, they were busy and I dont believe one person payed full price for a ticket. The girls were awesome and they showed me how to handle certain situations, they also are very sustainable as their RFID cards are re loadable, so every time a person comes to the mountain they can be reloaded and not issued a new one. I then headed over to Food and Beverage, i was working in the cafeteria loaded up baskets with fries and chicken and mozz sticks. It was really hott back there but i was busy as a lot of people were buying food. FB is a huge money maker and an important part of keeping the customer's happy! Overall for sustainability I didn't see that much going on but im sure throughout Jay they have some sustainability going on with there food and beverage.

Nordic and Ice Haus
Went to the Nordic Center learned a bit about how the xc system works and how its come from basically nothing besides a little hut, to a full Nordic Center with retail. There system goes around the golf course, its not huge but it gets the job done. The pump house has really took much of there foot traffic away as the visitors who don't downhill ski, now go to the water park instead of the Nordic center. I shoveled out their fire pit which was covered with snow so they could have fires in it at night. The Ice Haus was really busy as usual, there was a tournament going on. I believe that it is a big money maker for Jay Peak Resort, it really is always busy. The parents of the little youngsters were a hoot to watch...! I didnt really do much there as Dennis who runs the place wasn't around
